the Deodorant Saga

I have finally returned to my deodorant blog to get quantities because i require more and i realized that it's been almost 2 years since i made the first batch! i am pretty frugal with my things that i like i have been using store bought as well to make it last a bit longer and i lost a bar for a while but 2 years! thats crazy. sadly i used a fragrance oil that i can no longer find and i will have to make due with my new supply but i am excited. i did make several things with the ingredients i had for the first batch so i had to supplement some of my things. i made two more batches of deodorant, some lipsticks and a few lotions. i also found cocoa butter at walmart for under $5 and shea butter from a local "hippy" store for $7. so my costs of initial creation is going down. i also found that i prefer to use old deodorant containers to keep it in, it's easier to apply and it's not just a mysterious white circle in the fridge easily mistakable for cheese (bad times). using my own deodorant has decreased the darkness under my arms and using a rare exfoliating routine has helped too. but the lotions and moisturizing has helped so much in keeping my under pits so much happier. i break out less and i feel comfortable shaving more often. so happy times. :D

gem

equired Tools:
A Gemstone (depending on your purpose, such as Rose Quartz for self-love, Amethyst for psychic awareness, etc)
An empty jar (glass preferred, do not use metal as it will interfere with the vibrations)
Clean water, preferably distilled
A large, clear bowl
Distilled vinegar or Vodka (Optional)
If using a crystal that will dissolve in water, or a crystal that may contain toxic elements, you will also need:
A smaller, clear bowl that fits in the larger one.

Directions:
There are two ways to create a Gem Elixir, the Direct Method and the Indirect Method.

The Direct Method involves submerging your crystals in water.

You would use the Indirect Method if:
1. You are using a crystal that will dissolve in water (such as Selenite, Kunzite, Malachite, Halite, Azurite, etc. As a general rule, almost any crystal that ends with -ite will dissolve in water. If you are not sure, do a simple Google search on your crystal. All quartz crystals, such as Amethyst, Citrine, Rose Quartz, etc, are usually water safe), or

2. You are using a crystal that may contain toxic trace elements (for example, Cinnabar contains mercury, Emerald contains aluminium, etc). See the page on Toxic Crystals and Minerals for a more extensive list.

Always do proper research on your crystal before you ingest any type of gem elixir

Directions for the Direct Method:
1. Physically and Spiritually cleanse your stones.

2. Place your crystal(s) in a large, clear bowl and fill with water.

3. Leave the bowl out in the sunlight for 2-4 hours to allow the water to charge with the properties of the stone. If you have a stone that will fade in the sunlight, like Amethyst, you can use the Full Moon's light instead. If using moonlight, leave the bowl out for 12 hours and retrieve the bowl before dawn.

4. Pour the bowl's contents into a clean glass jar. If you are making an elixir that will not be used within a few days to a week, fill your jar only 3/4 full with your elixir and the other 1/4 with either distilled vinegar or vodka, which will act as a preservative and will prevent algae from growing in the water.

5. The contents of this jar is your Mother Essence. You can make smaller dosage bottles by adding about thirteen drops of Mother Essence to a smaller bottle filled with regular water. If the smaller bottle will not be used within a week, add vinegar or vodka to preserve it.

Directions for the Indirect Method:
Follow all of the steps of the Direct Method, except for step 2.
Instead of placing your stones in the large bowl, place them in a smaller bowl. Place the smaller bowl into the larger one, then pour the water into the large bowl.
This way the crystals vibrations can still be applied to the water without transferring toxins and without damaging the crystal.

Using Gem Elixirs:
You can use your elixir to anoint yourself and/or ritual tools.
You can also use it as an oral supplement for healing or drawing energy. If taking orally, only use about 4-5 drops of the Mother Essence by placing the drops on your tongue.

Shelf Life:
If you are taking the elixir internally, it will have a shelf life of about 2 years (with a preservative).

If for Topical application (anointing, cleansing, baths, etc) it will have a shelf life of about 6-10 years (with preservative).

Note: You can also make gem oils in this way. Use oil instead of water and do not add alcohol. This oil can be used for anointing the self, candles, baths, or just for a perfume. You should not ingest these oils and discard them if they begin to smell rancid

stuff

Who Knew??? THINGS YOUR MOTHER SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU 1. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster. 2. Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold! 3. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. 4. Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking. 5. To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up. 6. For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting. 7. Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic. 8. Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm! 9. Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works. 10. Easy Deviled Eggs Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up. 11. Expanding Frosting When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving. 12. Reheating refrigerated bread To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster. 13. Newspaper weeds away Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers. 14. Broken Glass Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily. 15. No More Mosquitoes Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away. 16. Squirrel Away! To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it. 17. Flexible vacuum To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings. 18. Reducing Static Cling Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... guess what! ... static is gone. 19. Measuring Cups Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. (Or spray the measuring cup or spoon with Pam before using) 20. Foggy Windshield? Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth! 21. Re-opening envelopes If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily. 22. Conditioner Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair. 23. Goodbye Fruit Flies To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! 24. Get Rid of Ants Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed! 25. Dryer Filter Even if you are very diligent about cleaning the lint filter in your dryer it still may be causing you a problem. If you use dryer sheets a waxy build up could be accumulating on the filter causing your dryer to over heat. The solution to this is to clean your filter with with a toothbrush and hot soapy water every 6 months

copper

The history, legend and lore of Copper use by humans is long and varied, dating back nearly 10,000 years with multiple applications. Copper is, in fact, humanity’s first metal and shows up in Sumerian and Egyptian metallurgy circa 3900 BC. Copper has been used for jewelry and in medical treatments since man first discovered it. In fact we can't live without it; copper is one of those metallic elements which are essential to human health. And since the body can't manufacture copper, it must absorb the essential element by other means. The old wives tale of wearing copper jewelry to reduce the pain of arthritis is quite valid.

Copper is an excellent energy conductor! It sends and amplifies thoughts, healing energy, and gem electrical energy into the wearer's energy field. Because of this, it encourages the physical/emotional bodies to find alignment. The result is clearer thinking, less aggressive behavior, a more calming persona and a boost to self-esteem. This is a warming stone. Copper helps to release the "excess charge" of resentment and anger. It's mineral make up encourages the balance between warm sun energy and cool lunar energy. It is an excellent assistant for increasing your ability to express and accept your true feelings. Copper will balance your personal energy reserve and confidence. It is also believed that copper has the power to amplify thoughts when sending and receiving psychic communications.

Copper is often known as the "love metal" as it helps us open up to love energies and physically helps with sexual imbalances. The healing properties of this stone are particularly enhanced when used in conjunction with other stones such as hematite and tourmaline.

New Age followers carry copper with their stones and crystals to 'straighten' the properties of them, as well they are used when creating crystal wands to be certain of their clear and straight powers.

Copper has also been found to be beneficial for a disorder called "streetlight phenomenon", when passing under a streetlight the negative energy charge in the body can turn off or shut down the light. Those with this energy charge are called "sliders" and the energy can be referred to as the "slider phenomena". It is common among those with a strong aura. Often people think it is their aura that causes this but it is the negative energy you carry, that reflects this. Your auric light is an expression of your mental, physical and emotional expression. Since energy is so sensitive, it is expressed outwardly sometimes before any symptoms are observed. Copper (along with hematite or magnetic hematite) help this situation.

Copper is also quite instrumental in the physical and mental healing rites of many peoples of this world.

Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral found in the human body. It is transported through our body by proteins in our bloodstream. The human brain and liver contain the largest amounts of copper, with lesser amounts of copper in other organs. We need approximately 3 mg copper per day in our diet. Copper is an essential component of the natural pigment, melanin that gives color to our skin, hair, and eyes. Copper keeps our hair from turning grey and helps keep our hair thick. Required in our body to make enzymes that stop our arteries from hardening, copper is required to support the enzyme lysyl oxidase. Lysyl Oxidase is used in the synthesis and maintenance of bone and connective tissue.
Copper is also essential to the activation of lysyl oxidase and supports both elastin and collagen productions. Copper can be used anywhere on or around the body. It is very effective when used at the Solar Plexus Chakra for issues pertaining to the stomach and intestines. When worn directly on the skin, copper detoxes and soothes arthritis, rheumatism, other inflammation problems.

Copper works for exhaustion recovery and improving circulation due to the fact that it influences the flow of blood. Whenever there is better blood flow, there is better circulation and less pain. Copper, therefore, is important for metabolism, as it stabilizes the metabolism and heightens immune system responses. Copper is also beneficial for the lungs, as it improves the exchange of oxygen and helps in filtering out pollutants. Soft tissue and mucous membranes retain more moisture and become less susceptible to irritation when there is enough copper in the body.

Copper is used in the Center/Health position to encourage good health and create balance and calm. Use copper for dispersing negative energy in any room. Use it in any room to also attract change into your space.

Migraine cure

http://frugallysustainable.com/2012/05/how-to-treat-migraines-with-an-herbal-tincture-at-home-a-recipe/

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) abounds in my garden!
It is one of the most easy to grow medicinal herbs and has some pretty amazing healing properties…making it a great addition to the home pharmacy.
Historically, lemon balm has been used to treat all kinds of nervous system ailments and is known for it’s ability to:
  • calm an irritable child.
  • act as an antiviral in treating cold sores due to the herpes virus.
  • heal wounds and protect the skin.
  • treat the symptoms of the common cold and flu when combined with other medicinal herbs.
  • relieve the symptoms of migraine headaches, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Likewise, feverfew is unbeatable when it comes to treating the common headache, migraines, stress/tension headaches, and those headaches associated with PMS symptoms. It truly is a wonder herb and a must in the garden of those who suffer these ailments.
